Long stay & remote work

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)วีซ่า DTV

Our service handles thisModerate

A five-year, multiple-entry visa for remote workers, freelancers and people pursuing Thai “soft power” activities such as Muay Thai or cooking courses. Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days.

Duration
Five-year visa validity; up to 180 days per entry.
Extensions
Each 180-day stay can be extended once by a further 180 days at an immigration office, so up to ~360 consecutive days per entry is possible.
Financial requirement
Evidence of at least 500,000 THB (≈ £11,000 / US$14,000) available in your bank account (as of 2026-05-24 — verify current figure).
Fees
Application fee around 10,000 THB (verify with the issuing embassy/e-Visa portal).
Processing time
Typically applied for online via the Thai e-Visa system; processing varies by post.

Who it’s for

  • Remote workers and freelancers employed by, or with clients, outside Thailand
  • Digital nomads who want a long-term base without a Thai employer
  • People enrolling in Muay Thai, Thai cooking, sports training or medical treatment
  • Spouses and children of a DTV holder (as dependents)

Key documents

  • Passport valid at least six months
  • Proof of funds — bank statement showing ≥ 500,000 THB equivalent
  • Evidence of remote employment/clients, OR enrolment/booking for a qualifying activity
  • Proof of address (in your home country or Thailand)

Staying compliant

  • 90-day reporting applies for any continuous stay over 90 days
  • TM.30 address notification on each arrival/move
  • A re-entry permit is not needed — the DTV is already multiple-entry
  • Income remitted to Thailand may be taxable if you are tax-resident (180+ days/year) — seek tax advice

Recent changes

  • Introduced July 2024 as a new long-stay category for remote workers and soft-power activities.

Common pitfalls

  • The DTV does not permit working for a Thai employer or local clients — that needs a Non-B + work permit
  • Funds should be genuinely available; some posts scrutinise recent large deposits
